Day nine: Exodus 9
How often do you pay particular attention to God’s instructions to you?
This chapter continues on with the judgements that God sent to Egypt because Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites leave.
God gave very specific instructions for Moses and Aaron to follow in order to create the judgements for Egypt. Moses was to inform Pharaoh that at a particular time which God chose the next day would be when the plague would affect only Egypt’s animals.
To create the plague of boils Moses and Aaron were to, “Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh” so that when ash touched someone in Egypt, they would break out in boils and sores.
Then to create the plague of hail. God had told Moses to “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt—on people and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.”
Moses and Aaron didn’t question God once as to why they were to carry out particular actions at a certain time, they just obeyed. They placed their faith on God so that when He ordered them to do something, they weren’t reluctant in doing so. They simply listened and followed what they were to say to Pharaoh and completed the instructions for the plagues.
It can be very difficult nowadays to always hear what God is instructing us to do as we are constantly surrounded by our phones, school/work, t.v, sport and friends. And when you do hear from God are you soon distracted or things get in the way which end up with forgetting whatever it was that we were instructed to do. We all need to follow Moses and Aaron’s example because they listened very clearly and attentively to what God instructed them to do.
Set some time out of your day today and ask God if there has been anything that He has been trying to say to you but you just haven’t heard it. Have some time with just you and God so during this get rid of any distractions and enjoy being in the presence of our Lord!
Come and see what God has done.
Question for today: How are you going to improve upon listening and following God’s orders?
