Day thirty-nine: Exodus 39

“It is finished” – John 19:30

In Exodus 39, we see that the tabernacle and all the items that go along with it are finally finished. A lot of hard work, time and effort had gone into each of the items and garments and they had all been consecrated to God.

You might be wondering where Jesus links into this. You see, the garments, the items and the tools that belonged with the tabernacle were all made under God’s instruction and design for his service and ministry. And so was Jesus. He ministered to the people on earth, following all of God’s instructions, and then, when it was time, he followed God’s instructions again and died on the cross. The ultimate sacrifice. His ministry did not end there. It continued because he obeyed God’s instructions. He broke the barrier between us and God, defeating death so we can live eternally with God. And just like this, God created us for his service. We have been put in this place and time to minister to those around us, both individually and as a church body. We have instructions to follow. We need to be like the Israelites. We need to be like Jesus. We need to be obedient.

Come and see what God has done.

Question for today: Will you be obedient to God’s instructions?
