Day eighteen: Exodus 18
“Oh my goodness I saw the cutest sausage dog ever today… I’ll send my dog-loving friend a pic so they can appreciate it!!! This ice-cream was actually glorious, that’ll go on the insta story. Oh better send Mum a pic of these new jeans I bought, she loves a good update.”
That was an accurate representation of my last week and the updates I shared with people (unfortunately I didn’t get a pic of the dog quick enough when my bus arrived 🙁 ). I’m very quick to share what I see throughout the day, from dogspotting to a great coffee to a nice book I’ve been reading, but today’s passage challenged me in what I discuss with people and it beckons us to dig a little deeper…
In Exodus 18, Jethro goes to Moses’ house for dinner (cute father-son dinner date) and in verse 8 we see that “Moses told his father-in-law about everything the Lord had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel’s sake and about all the hardships they had met along the way and how the Lord had saved them”.
What an encouraging dinner it sounded like as Jethro then rejoices in the Lord! How much more life changing would it be to share what God has been doing in my life as opposed to an ice cream. How much more encouraging is sharing what God is teaching than showing a pic of my jeans.
Share what God is doing! Recount the journey He’s been on with you! Make an effort to encourage others with that.
Come and see what God has done.
Question for today: What has God done for you lately and who can you tell?
