A year to give and a year to grow.

Team on Mission is the gap year program in the Methodist Church in Ireland for 18-25-year-olds and it has been running for over 30 years. It’s a year to answer the call of Jesus: go and make disciples.

“The mission has and always will be to answer the call of Jesus – to love God and others and to make disciples.”

Team on Mission is the gap year programme in the Methodist Church in Ireland for 18-25-year-olds. It has been running for over 30 years – before that, it was called YET (Youth Evangelism Team) and that ran for 12 years. The mission has and always will be to answer the call of Jesus – to love God and others and to make disciples.

The work is mostly with young people and children but the team also get involved in the whole life of the church Activities include kids clubs, school assemblies, BB’s and GB’s, church services, youth fellowships, drop-in’s, luncheon clubs, prayer rooms, large scale events and more.

Your year with Team On Mission is about experiencing life with new people in new places. The team is invited by churches all around Ireland to spend time with the church family and to work with the children and young people. Team On Mission gives you experience and training in youth and children’s work – including an accredited OCN (Open College Network) level 2 award in Youth Work Practice.

Our hope and prayer is that Team on Mission encourages, challenges and supports your relationship with God That you develop new skills, discover new gifts from God and be rooted in who He has created you to be.

Anyone who is aged between 18 and 25 years old and wants an opportunity to impact the lives of children and young people across Ireland. Do you want to take a year to serve God, learn new skills, experience new places and meet lots of new people? You don’t need to be in a certain stage of life – you could be leaving school, leaving university, in a job, wanting a career break – wherever you are TOM Team could be for you.

You’re here to be light- bringing out the God-colours in the world.

‘You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.’

Matthew 5:14-16

AMY MCSHARRY, 19
Hey! My name’s is Amy, I’m 19 and I’m from Sligo. I’ve just finished my first year of uni in TCD in Dublin studying Maths & Geography but am talking another gap year to be part of TOM31! My favourite things to do are play drums, paint and drink tea with a good pastry. I’m so excited for this year to build relationships with young people and also see what God is doing across the country as I travel a bit and be part of that!!
Hiya, my name’s Sara and I’m 18 years old. I attend Sydenham Methodist Church in Belfast where I also enjoy helping out with a Squirrel Scout Group. My hobbies include playing the trumpet, sketching and when I get the chance, any outdoor activities such as, high wire climbing. I’m looking forward to growing more in my faith throughout the year and learning to put God at the heart of everything I do. I am excited to meet new people and to carry out God’s work.
AARON SWEENEY, 18
Hello! I’m Aaron, I’m 18 and I’m from Bloomfield Methodist Church in East Belfast. Currently I’ve just finished studying my A-Levels at Wellington College Belfast. One of the things I love is music and playing my guitar. I applied because I had always known I didn’t want to go straight to uni and when deciding what I was going to do with the year TOM kept coming up and here we are! I’m really looking forward to seeing how God will use the rest of the team and me throughout the year to impact on so many people’s lives and also to see how we all grow closer with God.
