At IMYC, we are all about telling stories! We love to share what our amazing God is up to in his Church around this country. This summer, there were countless Holiday Bible Clubs, summer schemes and camps, telling the wonderful story to Jesus to little listeners maybe hearing it for the first time. All of this would not be possible without the incredible work of our volunteers, who give up their time (and sleep!) to be a shining light in the lives of our children and young people.
Over the next few weeks, we would love to share a few stories of our volunteers. We start with Emma Dunwoody, who volunteered at Castlewellan as a leader with the Megas (9-11 age group). Have a wee read at how God was at work, not just with the kids…:
Castlewellan Holiday Week has been always been part of my Summer. I have made my way through each age group and have trudged up the hill to the main marquee too many times to count. This year was different for me as I was part of the Youth and Children’s team. Alongside ten others, I was a leader in the Megas which had a group of around thirty children aged 9-11.
The theme was ‘Dare to Dream’. I went into the week with hopes and dreams of how the children would engage with God and the programme we had prepared, but every day God blew my expectations out of the water! The memory verse for the week, Ephesians 3:20, was very relevant, “With God’s power working in us, God can do much much more than anything we can ask or imagine.”
One morning in particular, we really saw this verse come to life. We scrapped part of our programme because we felt like God wanted us to push the boat out and invite the children to experience more of Him. It was in this session that these 9-11-year-olds were lifting their hands in praise, kneeling in prayer and asking to be prayed over. This is what happens when we follow God’s guidance and trust His ways- He does much much more than anything we can ask or imagine.
I am so thankful for the community and fellowship that is built in Castlewellan Holiday Week and for Our Father who is at the centre of it all. Sign me up for CHW 2018!
